The newest addition to the Archival Recordings project...

Hello ! I'm excited to announce the latest Archival Recordings photo essay titled, "Market/Place". From 2015 to 2020 I photographed almost every liquor store and neighborhood market I came across. Using a combination of 35mm and medium format film, I documented not only the structures but also the often elaborate signage that accompanied each store. In the years since, several of the stores have "updated" their signs, swapping out the classic designs for more contemporary, generic displays.

I have fond memories of the stores in the neighborhoods that I grew up in. As a kid in Los Angeles, that is where you went to buy candy with your friends or play Street Fighter back in the day. As most older structures in L.A. continue to be consumed by redevelopment, all traces of this often overlooked aspect of daily life in most neighborhoods are slowly disappearing.
