Archival Recordings 31
Welcome to Archival Recordings 31! I'm taking a short break from my Pandemic Los Angeles series, expect the final installment to arrive before the end of the month.
This newsletter is all about recent work. I don't share nearly as much of my photography on social media anymore because I don't feel like it's the best platform for the work I do. The whole point of my practice is to create an archive and that's pretty much the opposite of what social media is. Realizing that is partly what prompted me to start Archival Recordings in the first place.
These photographs are from the last few months, taken with either my Contax T2 or Fuji GA645 on Kodak Gold 200. I've come to truly appreciate the presence of time in the analog photographs that I create. Maybe it's just another form of rebellion against the culture of immediacy that surrounds us these days.
Archival Recordings in 2025
Heading into next year, there are a few changes on the horizons for Archival Recordings. The first major change is to the zine subscription tier. Starting in 2025, I've renamed the paid tier of the newsletter to "Digital + Publication" and lowered the price to $25 a year. As a result, instead of receiving 4 saddle stitched zines a year, with the new subscription (or renewal) you'll receive one, larger zine that is perfect bound (like a softcover book) and has a lot more photography. I made the shift to both simplify the publishing process (4 zines a year was a lot!) and to produce a higher quality book. I think you'll like what I have planned for the new zine, should be out by summer 2025.
Speaking of the current zine subscription, I have one more coming in under the old format. My latest zine, "Pasadena" should be going to the printer this week and sent out to my paid subscribers by the end of the year. It covers the period when I worked at ArtCenter College of Design and although it is not directly affiliated with the school, that was a time of exponential creative growth for me as an artist. For that reason, this one is a special set of images for me.
My last update is a plug for my new, Nonstndrd +Process newsletter. This past year I worked really hard to consolidate my photography and design practice. Nonstndrd +Process is the end result of that goal and covers my creative output as a whole, across all mediums. You can sign up at the link below:
